The second-best-selling silver bullion coins in the world (surpassed only by the American Silver Eagle), the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf is an annual tradition from the Royal Canadian Mint.One of only a handful of .9999 pure silver coins in production along with the highest face value of any comparable silver bullion coin differentiate the Canadian Maple Leaf. 2023 marks a milestone 35th anniversary of the Silver Canadian Maple Leaf series, prior to 1988 the iconic Canadian bullion coin was only available in gold.
Obverse (Heads/Front): Featuring artist Susanna Blunts effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as a more mature Monarch, the obverse includes four pearls symbolizing the four effigies that have graced Canadian coins and the double date (1952-2022) of the queens reign. Her Majesty's name is on the upper rim, while the coin’s face value of “5 DOLLARS” and year of issue is on the bottom.
Reverse (Tails/Back): Master Engraver Walter Ott was the designer of the Maple Leaf stamping the reverse side, with “CANADA” arching over it and the coin’s data regarding weight, fineness, and metal content surrounding the outer rim. The inscriptions are in English and French, reading: “9999,” “FINE SILVER,” “1 Oz” “ARGENT PUR,” and “9999”. Anti-counterfeiting features include precision radial lines and micro-engraved maple leaf privy mark is positioned to the right of the leaf stem. The last two digits of the mint year are displayed in the privy center.
